Playtest applications are open

Wildbound's first playtest waves: how to apply, what's in the current build, and what we ask of testers.

Wildbound is a creature research and survival game for Windows PCs. You walk into a living wilderness, learn how its animals live, win them over without a single capture, and build a field camp that keeps you alive. Today we're opening applications for the first playtest waves.

How it works

  1. Make a free account on wildbound.dev and confirm your email.
  2. Apply on the playtest page. Tell us a little about your PC and the kind of games you enjoy. It takes about two minutes.
  3. Wait for your wave. We invite testers in small waves, picked for a spread of PCs and play styles. If you're not in one wave, you stay on the list for the next.
  4. Install the launcher. Your invitation email links to it. It signs in through your browser, downloads the current build, and after that updates by downloading only what changed.

What you can play

The current test build is pre-alpha. It has:

  • a seeded valley with the Ancient Woodlands, Windcarved Highlands, Tidal Marshes and a layered Rainforest;
  • real water: rivers, groundwater, tides, rain that feeds the rivers, floods, and Glowing Chipmunk dams that hold, breach and erode;
  • one weather system across the map: clear, overcast, mist, rain and storm;
  • nine species in five anatomy families, with needs, territories, predation and genes that shape their bodies;
  • taming by trust, bonding and breeding;
  • the field tablet, a parchment journal with sketches and a hand-drawn map, and the field book main menu;
  • a starter camp with a comms tower, a power grid and building with real stability;
  • field equipment and two research scooters.

It will break in places, and saves from one build may not load in the next while the game is in development. That's what testing is for.

Share it

Stream it, record it, post screenshots: all welcome. The only thing we ask is that you don't pass on the download or your account.

What's next

The roadmap shows what we're building next. Patch notes for every test build are on the changelog. Report bugs from inside the game (pause menu, then Report a bug) or on the feedback board.
