Lumen Spidermonkeys roost in colonies in the crowns of the tallest trees and forage fruit, nectar, insects and eggs. They climb, then glide from tree to tree on a furred, faintly glowing membrane that runs from wrist to ankle, like a flying squirrel’s.
The membrane’s light is how a colony talks: patterns ripple through the canopy at night.
Field notes
- Look up at dusk in the Rainforest: the colony’s light shows where it roosts.
- Each species keeps its own tail; only the membrane glides.
